Etching is fun, hobby stores carry the products for etching. Read the directions and be careful.

You can try a free-standing screen or some self-adhesive window film that gives a frosted, tinted, or stained-glass look. Framed and hinged art prints might work. The light would ruin real artwork.
Beaded strands (think Gypsy-style), or scrollwork panels depending on the level of privacy needed.
