what kind of window treatments should I use on extremely small windows?

Question by secret: what kind of window treatments should I use on extremely small windows?
I live in the basement and I have a total of 3 windows which are extremely small. The ones in the study and the kitchen are 1 ft in height X 2 ft in length. The ones in the bedroom are 1 ft in height X 4 ft in length. These windows are located near the ceiling and not in the middle of the wall if that helps. Putting up regular sized curtains seem inappropriate and I’m scared it may overpower the look of the room. Not to mention it may look weird. What are some ways that i can cover up the windows for privacy reasons? Are curtains the only way to cover the windows and if so, what can I use? What are some alternative ways if there are any?

If you keep it simple by using a valance the small window will not be over dressed. Use a roman shade or blinds for privacy.

arches windowQuestion by ツ: Ideas for window treatments for arched windows in bedroom, please?
I’m interested in adding some color and texture to my newly finished bedroom and am interested in purchasing some curtains for the windows…

Unfortunately, I’m unfamiliar with an arch-type window such as the one shown here…

Any ideas?

You can use any style you like. The arched part isn’t covered, so any type will work.

What are ideas for window treatments for slider windows?

Question by remodeler: What are ideas for window treatments for slider windows?
I had 3 double-hungs replaced with a 3-lite slider (stationery middle lite); 111 inches wide from trim to trim edge. Installation included putting molding on the inside edge that prevents inside mount of any window treatment. I want privacy at night, but everything as open as possible during the day. If I had drapes, there’s very little room at outer edges for them to hang when open (because of sconce lights right next to window woodwork) — and they would block the side of the window that opens. Suggestions?

There are not many options if I read your question correctly.

a) My favorite and what I have always had are plantation shutters.. a bit pricey but beautiful.

b) the roll up/down blinds that they have now at various places to includes Lowe’s and Home Depot are made of a beautiful bamboo, or other like materials and in various shades of color mostly in the beige… These fit INSIDE the window well and not the outside which might work for you.. when you want to raise the window treatment(shade I think is the name), you pull the cord until it rolls itself up and catches.. then to lower, pull to one side(the cord) and lower the treatment to whatever level you want

Any ideas on how to come up with window treatments fast and cheap for my new house that has tons of windows?

Question by *me*: Any ideas on how to come up with window treatments fast and cheap for my new house that has tons of windows?
It is an old cottage with lots of charm. I plan on painting it all light, and sanding the wood floors light, so I want the curtains to be light too.

I need ideas for window treatments that are affordable, but creative. This house is covered with lots of windows, and I don’t know what I’m gonna do.

you go to your local fabric store. buy inexpensive yards of fabric. Then you go to walmart and buy a curtain rod with metal clips fasteners (like clothesline clips but metal). if you want a finished look, hem the edges after you cut to size. Make slightly wider to accommodate the “pleats.”

What type of window treatments should i use for our basement apartment windows?

Question by sweetpixiegirl007: What type of window treatments should i use for our basement apartment windows?
We live in a basement apartment where the windows are at ceiling height, small, and wide. I’m having trouble with finding nice window treatments. I’m tired of blinds and ugly curtains. Someone help?

Have you considered cellular shades? They’re not “industrial” looking like mini-blinds can be, and they’ll add some texture and fabric to your windows. They’re also great insulators, which you may need if you’re living somewhere with cold winters.

Symphony Double Honeycomb cellular shades offer tons of colors to choose from so you can choose a pattern that fits your style. You can find them at http://www.blindcrafter.com/Symphony/symphony.cfm. And if they’re not your style, you can do your window treatment research at BlindCrafter.com, too. They have a variety of styles and fabrics to choose from.

I hope that this insight helps.

Happy Designing!
Kristina
