Q&A: Tall, Skinny windows.. window treatments?

Question by Victoria: Tall, Skinny windows.. window treatments?
I have two tall, skinny windows, one on each side of my fireplace in the living room. They are about 22″x70″. I’m having a hard time picking a nice window treatment. I am putting up wood blinds through out the house, including these windows. Do you think I should go with just a valance, I was thinking a balloon hem valance or tie up valances or should I go with panels?

Hi

Why don’t you hang a scarf swag over a decorative curtain rod. You can have the tails of the swag hang down as far as you want. These are really simple to do but can really look good.

You can make them yourself without sewing or just buy some ready made. If your not sure what they look like then do a image search for “scarf swags”.

What kind of window treatment should I use for these windows?

Question by Lady25: What kind of window treatment should I use for these windows?
I have three windows right next to each other in my living room and i don’t know what type of window treatment to use. A single rod straight across the top of all three and shears along side of each window??? I dont know what would look right. I have included a link (below) of pictures of my living room as well as these three windows. Please tell me what you think.

Thanks!

We bought that area rug just the other day, lol. Garden Ridge had it tagged for $ 129.99, but for whatever reason it rang up for 39.99…what a bargain!

I have very similar windows in my living room. What I did was, a valance all the way across the top of all 3 windows, and static drapes to the floor on the outside side of the 2 windows on the ends. It looks very nice and finished.
I would not do fabric on the side of each individual window because they’re so close together, you’d end up with more fabric than window showing. Since you have blinds, drapes are more decorative than useful anyway.

Because the furniture in that room is so dark, I’d go with a lighter color for the drapes. A champange, Ivory, or a Light tan (lighter than the wall color) would all look lovely. You might also be able to use a sage green if it coordinates with the greens in the painting above the sofa. Something like watered silk would be very elegant.

Think Before You Replace

In every field you can think of, there is and always will be competition. The same fate lies on the industry that feeds off from replacing busted windows. With the increased number and a wide range to choose from, the consumer may tend to become overwhelmed therefore arriving at half thought of decisions.

As the client, all you want to receive is top of the line services from the company that will work on your windows. But you have to be responsible for your end of the line. It is up for you to report to them the specifications of your window. Get the accurate number of estimates. Guessing is not part of the game and this is not even considered a game to begin with. So, if you want them to give you what you want then give them what they need. It is recommended to take five estimates at the very least from five different suppliers.

Be practical and plan a budget. What you are aiming for is to only replace a window and not to purchase a whole new one. The money you will spend should just be about right. Once you have contacted your manufacturer then you can arrange deals with them depending on what is convenient for the both of you. They may offer you promos and discounted prices. Having a set budget will guide you and prevent you from overspending.

Stick to what you only need. Once transactions have started, it is but natural for the supplier to take that opportunity to convince you into having additional repairs. They will advertise and promote other services that they offer. Do not persuaded. You know exactly what it is that you need and that will be the only for now. There will always be a next time intended for the other repairs.

Windows may be deemed simple but it actually adds a lot of character wherever it is situated. No wonder people exert effort and put so much attention into having the broken ones fixed. Which is why this article aims to equip you with information you will find definitely useful when it comes to thinking things over before deciding for yourself.

Question by H R: window treatment ideas for tall windows?
I have 18 foot ceilings in my living room. I would really like to add some sort of window treatment, we have shades right now, but with the tall ceilings, it just seems sort of empty, its also sort of a weird shaped alcove. the apartment managers don’t mind if I add curtains so thats all fine. theres a picture of the space (not mine but a model):

You should add stationary side panels the full height of the windows to them. Maybe add some interesting decorative hardware. It looks like your house is contemporary. I am not sure what your color scheme is. If you use a really large scale print 27″+ repeat it could look fabulous if you want to add some interest. Or if you want to keep it simple use a sheer. they have very interesting ones It looks like you have the privacy/fading issue covered with the blind. Also you might not be able to do a stationary panel next to the fireplace it is hard to tell. I think a “top” treatment would look like an amateur did it . Maybe you should hire a designer on a consultation basis if you want to do it yourself. I would advise having a pro do it.

Double Glaze Your Windows For A Better Touch

One of the best ways to get to know a person is by looking through their eyes. They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. With that mentioned, the windows play important roles not only as a way to deeply understand a person but also to literally discover more of that’s person home.

Security is very vital in terms of home construction. This is to protect not just the home itself but more so the living and non living things within the four walls of it. Aside from needing sturdy foundation posts, strong staircases and well hooked interiors, a high quality and durable window should also be taken into consideration. There is no better way to serve that purpose but to opt for double glazed windows. Double glazed windows are known for its main ability and that is to provide insulation. May that be against energy consumption, heat and sound.

The double glazed window is not as complicated as it seems. Basically, the concept consists of having a couple of panels made out of glass with a thin layer of air filling the space in it. Most of the time the material is made out of argon that is safe and not toxic. The two panels are placed in a single frame creating a space in between that measures at about 20mm apart. As previously mentioned it is an insulator. When winter season is just around the corner, the panel facing the home will retain the heat inside. You can do away with high cost heaters and troublesome fireplaces. You just have to standby the window and feel the warmth it gives. When you happen to have noisy neighbors or your house is located near a main road, then the sound will become a major problem. But what the double glazed windows are capable of doing is to lessen the amount of sound that penetrates your home. It will create a better place for rest that is free from all the hustle and bustle of outside world.

Keep in mind that this project requires spending and consulting an expert if you really want the job to be done the right way. You may be worried about how much it would cost. However, as time goes by, you will get to realize that your electric bills have dramatically decreased. All thanks to your double glazed windows.

Treat Your Window The Right Way

As much as you don’t want to admit it, whenever you visit some else’s house you tend to become a self proclaimed architect or interior designer. From the looks of the gate and the walls, the front porch and the garden, the main door, the receiving room of the house up to the most little piece of furniture there is, you find yourself with thoughts running in your head and you keenly criticize each and every one of them. Among the things you can observe in a house, the window is a favorite. It may be of standard size or may extend up to the ceiling, it has that ability to attract the people that pay trips to your home.

Window treatments have progressed a lot from the past years. It is no longer just a mere opening on the wall for an avenue of fresh air from the outside or an option to go in and out of the house if the door is not accessible. It has evolved into becoming an icon of character and style to one’s place. Basically, it is more stylish and functional now.

Under the umbrella of the window treatments belong the blinds, curtains, shades, coverings and sheers. These things also come in different colors to suit your personal taste. Other than that, the design scheme also includes a variety of textures just like paper, plastic, glass, grass and bamboo. There is a current campaign trend in utilizing environment friendly materials that are not only helping in saving mother earth but also provides natural beauty to whatever room you are decorating.

If you are creating a window for let us say a bedroom and you wish for consistency then you can opt for a monochromatic design. You can choose pieces from your room such as the color or design and inject it to the parts of your window. This way your room will look uniform and organized.

Investing time and effort in decorating a window will give fulfillment to the home owner most especially if he or she is very particular when it comes to function and aesthetics. Take care of those windows. You will never know what might go in through that someday.
