Insulating Your Home Using Window Treatments
Keeping our homes energy efficient is always in our list. It’s not just caring for the environment, but we also do some cost-cutting. Air condition in the summer and heating in the winter could really add up to the hefty utility bill every year. There is a lot of things that we could do so as to cut back on costs and aid in the insulation of our homes from the weather.
It may come as a surprise but one of the things you could actually do in order to insulate your household is by the mere changing of curtains. Your windows are among the few places in your house that may bring about heat loss. They take up a big surface area in your home, so it’s only fitting that you have them properly insulated. You could buy double glazing, but it can be quite costly.
Purchasing insulated curtain would not be similar to double glazing, but it can surely help in keeping the home insulated from the nippy weather. Plus, they are just a fraction of the cost of new windows. Given that insulated curtain are much more affordable, they will be a surefire way to reduce your utility costs.
You could purchase thermal curtains in similar materials, colors and styles compared to that of standard curtains. The difference here is that such window treatments possess a special insulated layer which is attached to the back of the curtain. Such layer is facing the window, while the actual curtain will be facing towards the interior.
Moreover, these particular curtains are way heavier because of the lining. Thus, you need to see to it that the rods or rails could sufficiently bear the extra weight. Such curtains are actually not that much more than the typical curtains, and if you happen to be comparing prices on the web, you could actually be surprised by how little they could actually cost you.

Q&A: Window treatments for baby nursery?
Question by Mommy to a Lil Princess: Window treatments for baby nursery?
I have 2 windows on the room. I already have a valance and blinds on both. Would adding sheer curtains be too much?
I just dont like the way the blinds look.
thanks

I don’t think adding sheer curtains would be too much. It will bring light in to the room, with some privacy. I would keep the blinds, though for when you want full privacy and when you want to darken the room for nap and sleep time. What is going to be too much is if you use drapes instead of a sheer curtain. Try to match the color of the valance for a “put together” look.

what kind of window coverings should I use for a pointed top window?
Question by Claire Standish: what kind of window coverings should I use for a pointed top window?
We have moved our master bedroom into the attic. So the windows are pointed at the top like a triangle on top of a square. What kind of window treatments should I use? I thought about getting shutters with the triangle part open because they are above window seats and I am also concerned with my kids breaking the window and, horribly falling out. They are old windows. Does anyone have any ideas. A link to a picture would be great. I have searched, but can’t find anything. Thanks for your help.
I do know I don’t have to fit them exactly. If I use shutters I will just cover the square part, but if I use drapes, I don’t know what to do. Like, should I just hang them over the square part too or over the whole thing. Just looking for cute ideas. Thanks for answering.

You know that you don’t have to fit the window to cover them, right? You could use oversized drapes, or shutters or that matter, to cover the widest area. You won’t be able to tell the shape of the windows unless the drapes are open.

It has evolved into becoming window covers, room dividers and accents for decoration. It also is not just pleasing to the eyes but also stylish, durable and easy to maintain when it comes to cleaning. Here are the criteria they have to pass before you put them up in your house. First, choose the right material. Oftentimes, vertical blinds are made out of fabric and PVC. PVC developed over the years and went through technological improvement that is why consumers can be assured of a more stylish and contemporary look. If you are particular with light inside the room, you can opt for fabric made blinds. They filter light very well. Second, stick to a budget. In the recent times, practicality is on top of the list. Set a budget and make things work around it. You need not to pay too much if you can have it cheap but good. Third, make measurements. One should not go to the store and randomly select a vertical blind. Instead, bring with you the specifics so you can purchase the one that will provide full length cover of your window or wall. Finally, select your color. Even to this little detail, it can instantly set the mood for your room. You can also match the blinds to the wall paint or to the furniture.

You should add stationary side panels the full height of the windows to them. Maybe add some interesting decorative hardware. It looks like your house is contemporary. I am not sure what your color scheme is. If you use a really large scale print 27″+ repeat it could look fabulous if you want to add some interest. Or if you want to keep it simple use a sheer. they have very interesting ones It looks like you have the privacy/fading issue covered with the blind. Also you might not be able to do a stationary panel next to the fireplace it is hard to tell. I think a “top” treatment would look like an amateur did it . Maybe you should hire a designer on a consultation basis if you want to do it yourself. I would advise having a pro do it.

The Overprotective Window Blinds
Try to look around you and see if you have window blinds hung on your windows. If you do, then you can breathe out for there is no need to worry. If you don’t, then hold on tight and listen carefully. These window blinds may come off as a simple decorative items to make the windows more stylish and attractive. But there is more to it than just that. A lot of people do not realize that these normal looking ornamental pieces provide multiple benefits not just to the other things in the house but also to the people living in it.
Because of architecture and interior design, windows can come in several different shapes and sizes. For those who have floor to ceiling windows, it is obvious that a huge amount of sunlight penetrates the home. It allows extra lighting within the home making you save up electricity during the day by not having to turn on the lights and lamps. It is also helpful during the cold season since it gives off heat and warmth. However, when you look into the other side of the coin, having these oversized windows create an avenue for extensive heat that could mean bad news for your household furniture. The sun shining directly on them can lead to staining as well as fading issues. Moreover, even the upholstery on the sofas can be destroyed once exposed to too much sunlight. But if you have existing window blinds, you can keep the sunshine out of the room. You can retain the quality of your furniture and do away with refurbishing and repainting them every now and then. This will save you money, time and effort that you can put on other important matters.
Aside from the benefits to the non living things, window blinds also do good with people. With window treatments, you can adjust the area it covers thus setting it at your desired pace. You will notice a positive change when it comes to your disturbing headache and troublesome stress. The mood of the room can be set in order to create a comfortable ambience suitable for rest and sleep.
Now that you have come to realize the good stuff about window blinds then it is never too late to get one on your own. It does not matter it they are overprotective as long as they are protecting you from all the right reasons.

Window Shutters To Provide Good Coverage
You may find a lot of instances where you arrive at a conclusion that the best answer to your dilemma with regards to issues of coverage is through the use of a window shutter most especially when you have to deal with an already made window bay. Aside from that, you might also desire to cover the kitchen window since it allows too much light and heat into your place. In this case, using blinds or curtains may not be the best solution. What perfectly fits your need is with the utilization of a window shutter system of any time depending on your taste. But without getting anymore further, there are still a few things you need to consider before pursuing this project.
Among all others things, you have to think about the place and space you are dealing with. Consider the wall design and the color. Find the kind of shutter system with hue and style that will blend well with your place. You would not want your window shutters to look like it was made for another room and not the room where it is currently placed. Another thing to ponder on is the space. If your house was made following the usual standards then the windows will most likely fit the standard shutter available in the market. That will give you less hassle in measuring the shutters. However, if the house was custom made and every detail inside was made as unique and possible, then you have to arrange the making of a custom made window shutter. It may cost more and may eat up more time but at least it will be of perfect fit to your home. One more things is to choose the type of material of your shutter. It could be made of vinyl that is praised for its durability and colors that do not easily fade, made out of wood that will simply mesh with any décor scheme there is or metal that will provide good protection to your furniture as well as give a more modern feel to it.
With all these choices available for you, still keep in mind that the number one thing to consider is the quality. The ability of the material to withstand long years and piles of dust. So start looking for the right one for you and finish those window shutters in no time.
