Q&A: Window Treatments for a sliding glass door?
Question by cmljsd27: Window Treatments for a sliding glass door?
I have a sliding glass door in my dining room that does not get used at all and I was wondering if It would be ok to take down the plain blinds that are there now and decorate it with regular panels and a valance. Or maybe put a valance up now and leave the blinds with it. I am really bad at window treatments! Any advise would be helpful. Thanks!

Answer by keezymama
Yes you can put up normal curtain on your sliding door – plan on having the curtains hang in front of the wall on either side – rather than the glass – this makes your glass look – bigger – but also makes it so if you want to open the door the curtains are not in the way. You might want to consider either a traverse rod so you can close the curtains or still having a blind mounted behind the valance so that you can close of the opening for the purposes of privacy or to darken the room.

What would be the cost of getting custom window treatments done?
Question by Nemo: What would be the cost of getting custom window treatments done?
I have a window (or set of windows) in my family room that takes up a whole wall. I don’t have the exact measurements, but it’s close to 84″ high and 108″ long. I want to get curtain/drapes/window treatments (whatever they are called) made. I know that a major cost factor will be type of fabric that I select plus hardware, but can someone give me a price range so I can start budgeting? Just to make it easy, let say I select a fabric that is $ 20 per yard.

The best thing for you to do would be to:
#1 get the exact measurements for your window.
#2 pick a company/designer that makes custom window treatments
They will then be able to help you pick what’s best. They can price it out and you can contact them once you have the money.

Any ideas on how to come up with window treatments fast and cheap for my new house that has tons of windows?
Question by *me*: Any ideas on how to come up with window treatments fast and cheap for my new house that has tons of windows?
It is an old cottage with lots of charm. I plan on painting it all light, and sanding the wood floors light, so I want the curtains to be light too.
I need ideas for window treatments that are affordable, but creative. This house is covered with lots of windows, and I don’t know what I’m gonna do.

you go to your local fabric store. buy inexpensive yards of fabric. Then you go to walmart and buy a curtain rod with metal clips fasteners (like clothesline clips but metal). if you want a finished look, hem the edges after you cut to size. Make slightly wider to accommodate the “pleats.”
