I am very fond of the 2 inch faux wood blinds. They can cut them to fit your window at no extra charge. What I like most about them is they are very easy to clean. I put them in the bathtub with some Oxyclean and hot water and even the draw cords are like new. They give you total control of the light. Then you can add a valance over the top to make them more decorative if you want.

In most kitchens the windows are treated with fairly frilly curtains. I used a tailored valance in my latest kitchen just to be a little bit different, and it has a gathered lining (custom made) http://jansseninteriors.blogspot.com/ (the very first photo)

The most important thing to keep in mind for kitchen curtains is that they get dirty, and should be machine washable if you want them to last. Most are not very expensive.

How to hang window blinds on a wall made out of brick or other type of window treatment that would work?

Question by jrunaas: How to hang window blinds on a wall made out of brick or other type of window treatment that would work?
We live in San Diego and the room in question gets a lot of morning sun. The room was a patio that someone enclosed with the far wall being all brick (fireplace). Where normally you would have drywall to screw in the brackets for blinds, you have a metal plate at the top of the window which the brick sits on. The rest of the house has wood blinds, but I’m up for anything – I just don’t know how to secure it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answer by Jason H
If allowable in your home, might try Liquid Nail. Can buy easily at Home Depot or Lowe’s, Its very strong, but you may have to hold the piece for a few minutes to let it set.

Without drilling into your brick this is the only option I can think of.

You could also try putting in a “roman shade” I believe they call it? These are available almost everywhere including Wal-Mart. It may not look like something you’d like but it would provide shade for you.

Best of luck!

Q&A: Can you suggest a window treatment for large windows in a formal dining room that have plantation shutters?

Question by KYKate: Can you suggest a window treatment for large windows in a formal dining room that have plantation shutters?
The shutters come out pretty far when they are open so the window treatment needs to accommodate them.

You may want to try a fabric wrapped cornice. Just make sure that when you mount it, you mount it high enough for the shutter panels to swing open under the cornice.
You can either hire someone to custom make this cornice for you, or you can make it yourself if you’re handy.
Without getting too technical, a cornice is a flat board with attached flat board sides that you staple cotton to, then staple a fabric to, and then mount it to the wall.

Q&A: How do you fix a window treatment on a wall that the window is off balance?

Question by **Cullen**: How do you fix a window treatment on a wall that the window is off balance?
What I mean is the window is not in the center of the wall. So how would you use a window treatment to make it look like it was balanced? Please use pic. if you can. Thanks!

Answer by seamstress
If I understand your question, here is a solution to make the window look as though it is centered on the wall:

Find the center of the wall. From there (the center of the wall), measure to the outer edge of the window on both sides of the window. Take the larger measurement and double that number. Hang a curtain rod the length of the doubled number, centered on the wall, above the window frame.

Hang two LINED drapery panels on the rod and allow one panel to cover the wall and part of the molding. This will give the illusion that the window is in the center of the room.

If you intend to close the drapery, be sure the width of each panel is wide enough to do so.

Is there a window treatment for open dormers that I can close automatically?

Question by Dena P: Is there a window treatment for open dormers that I can close automatically?
We just moved to our new home in Florida. In the living room we have two open dormers that provide a lot of light. I would love to find a window treatment (blinds?) that I can open or close automatically. I love the open brightness of the room, but it casts a major glare on our big screen TV. Not to mention being blinded by the bright sun during the middle of the day.

Do remote controlled blinds exist? I would love to be able to control the brightness of the room.

Best answer:

Answer by Jon R
Yes they exist and are pretty common. You will have to go to a custom window treatment store to get them or order them online, so they may be a bit pricey. They even have them with a remote control!

Several Ideas of Large Windows Treatment

Large window is one of the great assets of a house. It can work as the way for the natural light and breeze to enter the house. Thus, it is very essential to make the room in your house bright and airy. It can also make the room look more spacious. Another benefit is that it provides you good view to the world outside.

Since window plays an important for your house, taking good maintenance will be beneficial for you. Window treatments have the similar purpose like window coverings, to add aesthetic touch to the décor. The treatment for large window is quite simple. Here you can find out some ideas for the treatment.

Fabric Window Treatments

This is one of the most important parts you can do for the treatment since fabrics is one of the main covering which is used for decorating window. For the lighter fabric, you can use for your kitchen or bathroom with high moisture since it retains less moisture.

On the other hand, heavier fabric should be used in your privacy room. In addition, if your window receives more sunlight, the use of fabric such as curtain or drape is not suitable since the sunlight will make the fabric color fade. Therefore, you have to choose the fabric with higher quality for it does not fade easily.

Window Blinds and Shades

Window blind is also another important part of large window. It is able to provide the cozy look to the decoration of your room. There are two types of blinds available, horizontal and vertical. For the large window, vertical will work best. Commonly, this is used for window that receives higher sunlight so that it cannot directly come into the house. In addition, it can also prevent the window from the rain. Since it plays an important part, taking good care of this home accessories is necessary. Mostly, window blinds are made of bamboo so that it is eco-friendly.

Furthermore, you also have to make treatment for the shade. It has the main function to filter the light. Sheer shade is ideal to be used for a room in which filtering light is not the main concerns. For larger window, plated and cellular shades will be more ideal.

While treating your window, don’t forget to do door lock installation. By installing the lock mechanism, you will provide higher protection to your house since it is one of the potential way for any burglar to break into your house. For more information, you can read combination door lock.

Discover Simple And Elegant Window Treatment Hardware

A home that’s well-designed is a haven for relaxation and sharing many wonderful moments with family and friends. When architectural elements, down to the smallest details, are in place, dwellers feel highly at ease, while visitors depart with a nice experience. The impression of order and serenity can reach a person on a conscious and subliminal level. The main rooms of a house — notably the living room, dining room, and bedroom – may be transformed into fresh and inviting areas through carefully chosen furniture plus tasteful tabletop accents and window treatments. Window treatments can add elegance and style to a house. They can be a secondary focal point, next to the basic furniture pieces. When dressing up your window and choosing hardware, consider not just the style of your room but also its height and size. Choose light and small window treatment hardware for a small room with a low ceiling, and large, heavy hardware for a big room like the living room or master’s bedroom.

To veer away from boring or plain windows, you can play with fabric in the window dressing, and use harmonious colors and patterns to achieve the desired effect.

Even small or narrow windows can create visual interest with the right choice of hardware and accessories. If you’re decorating a somewhat formal room, choose rods that are artistically styled or decorative. Invisible and lightweight hardware may be fine for a contemporary and minimalist look. Go for window treatment hardware that will enhance your window décor style. For a modern bedroom, you can add a sleek and elegant touch with a steel curtain rod (with round finials) holding a layering of sheer and heavy drapery (on the sides). Bedrooms and living rooms with a French country style or rustic design may be accented by black wrought iron drapery hardware. Decorative iron hooks installed in the ceiling or iron rings that clip to the top drapery in sheer fabric, coordinated with a table with graceful aluminum legs and bedposts can look alluring in a young lady’s room. A wooden curtain rod with round finial is also suitable for a simple and cozy country home. A wooden rod (with symbolic shaped finials on each rod) may also be used for colonial style windows with Italian silk drapery.

Other types of window treatment quite popular among homeowners who want to enhance their homes are blinds, shutters, and shades. Modern wooden blinds in fashionable colors can lend an entirely unique perspective or heighten a room’s warmth and elegance. Cornices, boards which are often covered in fabric, may be used to give a window a finished look. Whatever window treatment hardware you choose, make sure that it’s coordinated with your draperies/panels. Some hardware may look inconspicuous, like hooks attached on the topmost part of a wall where valances may be placed. Hence, large windows and doors may be opened and closed without having to move the treatments. For arched windows, lovely curtain holdbacks may serve as perfect hardware for swag curtains. There are also curved curtain rods available at hardware stores for uniquely shaped windows. Indeed, there several fresh, interesting, and fabulous window treatments and hardware in stainless steel, wood, stainless steel, ceramic, or wrought iron.

Can someone help me with window treatment ideas for a bedroom window with vertical blinds?

Question by noelle1821: Can someone help me with window treatment ideas for a bedroom window with vertical blinds?
I will have to get measurements, but I have a window in my bedroom, which is a pretty large size, but has vertical blinds and I’m trying to figure out ideas for curtains/window treatments to ‘pretty’ up the space.

Best answer:

Answer by ClicketyClack
Only mini-blinds or vertical blinds will give you the options of the window glass being fully or partially exposed whenever you want and in an easy fashion. If you want to merely add curtains but retain the blinds for privacy, then you could get a set of double curtain rods. Put a fancy valance on the outer rod and coordinating sheer curtains or heavier slub silk or velvet curtains on the inner rod. When you draw them closed, they would cover the blinds but when they’re left at the sides, the blinds are exposed and you can open them to let in full or partial light. Good luck!! : P

Vertical Blinds as a Window Treatment

There are a vast amount of options when it comes to window treatments like curtains, blinds shutters etc, however it comes down to what you require in terms of personal preference, design and what you personally think would fit nicely within your home that would also complement your current interior decoration. The days have gone now where curtains are used as window treatments and who knows could potentially come back in fashion, however in the meantime the popular options is vertical blinds.

Most homeowners go with vertical blinds for the function and other advantages they provide. For example a study was done to see how much blinds could reduce the chances of your home being burgled. It was noted that the chances of being burgled were dramatically reduced due to blinds making it harder for thieves to view into the property and pick items to steal.

From a security point of view for a homeowner this could be a great addition to a home. Strangely enough a lot of people don’t realize that it can help with you energy bills as well, the thickness of blinds can help keep heat in the home reducing the amount of gas or electric you use.

Vertical blinds are also brilliant for the control of light into a property as the function allows them to be shifted vertically and around on their own individual spindle allowing you to direct light into a room in the direction you prefer. If you have windows that are fairly high and problematic to reach then there are additional feature that can be added to vertical blinds like a motor that can be remote controlled. This will allow you to control the function of the blinds with a remote without having to worry about being able to reach the window itself.

Vertical blinds do come in a number of options from colour, size, style and they can be modified in their function as well.

For example you could have a patterned vertical blind which is also remote controlled, this will provide you with uniqueness but you have to be very careful here as the blinds will have to match your decor so choose wisely. Most homeowners tend to go with plain cream or white blinds as these tend to go with most decors in homes.

As above there are so many options and you really should do your research to ensure you know what you need. The main reason is that the outlay blinds is not cheap and you have to be exact on what you require as mistakes can be very costly to rectify. The important factor of having blinds installed is to ensure you get measurements absolutely correct as to have these modified can cost you a lot of money. It is strongly advisable to have your fitter come along and do the measurements themselves making them responsible for any problems that occur with the fitting. It always easy to deal with blinds when fitting in a straight line the issue comes when you have bay windows or other oddly shaped windows.
