What are some alternatives to vertical blinds for sliding glass doors?

Question by woohoooooo!!!!: What are some alternatives to vertical blinds for sliding glass doors?
I don’t especially want vertical blinds if I don’t have to. Are there any other good ideas for sliding glass doors?

Good question. Our new house has a sliding glass door and vertical blinds. My mom even gave me a new set of vertical blinds. But my SIL told me it looks like a motel room LOL. The only feasible alternatives I’ve come up with is a) reflective film (so no one can see in, eliminating the need for any window covering) or b) treating the sliding doors as a really big window. I like b better. You can just buy drapes, valances, etc whatever you would buy for a window. You might have to custom order or make it yourself due to the size though.

Need suggestions for window treatment for glass sliding doors.?

Take the curtain rod all the way up to about two inches away from the ceiling. This will elongate the window/doors and make it look more elaborate. Do the width wide so that the window treatment can be opened wide enough to allow use of the doors. If one side does not open …you could design the window treatments to push to one side as well. I would leave room on both sides to be able pull the window treatments far and away from the window to allow light to flood in when you so desire.
You could use a cornice board covered with padding and fabric to add the height to the window. You can play with lots design ideas.

Use a subtle yet uniform design to avoid a very plain look …or a very wild look. Something with some texture would be nice as well.

I would go to the local fabric store and pick out the fabric that matches your kitchen best. Have a seamstress come measure the window and help you make a cornice board.
Buy the curtain rod before you buy the fabric to avoid spending more money than necessary.

You may want to buy a small piece of fabric, bring it home. hang it up on the wall. Look at it for a while and live with it to see if you really like it before buying enough to do the whole window.

My bedroom has an east-facing sliding door. How do I block out all the light?

Question by : My bedroom has an east-facing sliding door. How do I block out all the light?
There is a balcony outside and I am thinking of building a vertical sunshade of some kind to help block the sun. Would I be better off doing this or spending more on inside window treatments? The heat is absolutely astonishing. Top floor of a double A-frame.

I purchased room-darkening curtains from J.C. Penny’s and they don’t darken good at all. So I purchased another set of curtains and put another curtain rod up. Now I have two curtains in one window and it blocks out the light and all that hot sun. You could still build a sun blind of some sort if you wish, and have curtains too. You would probably only need one set of curtains if you have the sun blind tho. Good luck.

Sliding Door Window Treatment?

Question by tia r: Sliding Door Window Treatment?
Is there any contemporary window treatment for a sliding door. Currently we have blinds, but our kids constantly play outside and go in and out all day long. We have to always change out the blinds. Furthermore, I just think the blinds take away from the design, but I can’t think of anything that can be used other than blinds. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can use curtains, just make the rod extends beyond the door far enough so that you can pull them back in the daytime for the kids.

Where can I find window treatments for a sliding patio door?

Question by William U: Where can I find window treatments for a sliding patio door?

Answer by patrebb
Any company that sells window coverings can help you on this one. Do an online search for companies in your area, or go to some of the major manufacturer sites (hunterdouglas.com, blindcrafter.com, graberblinds.com). Many people do vertical blinds or draperies for their patio doors, but you do not have to be so limited in your selection. There are a lot of other options so it is good to do the research and see what suits your lifestyle and decor.

Window treatments (sliding panels) how to order?

Question by Sam A: Window treatments (sliding panels) how to order?
If I order vertical sliding fabric panels, will they determine the width of the panels and the number of panels? The site(s) only ask for the height and width of the window.
Thanks!

They will ship you the measurements of the panels that will fit the dimensions you send.

Q&A: Sliding glass door window treatments…please help?

Question by Amy D: Sliding glass door window treatments…please help?
We are building a new home, we are now doing the window treatments. We have hardwood floors and a very light neutral color on the wall. We went to the store to order our window treatments and she suggested we get the closest color to the WALL color for our sliding glass door treatment that is located in the kitchen. And to also use the same color for the window above the kitchen sink. Oh these are vertical blinds for the sliding glass door.
We just need some ideas or better yet if this is the best way to do this? Thanks!!

It sounds like that person has no imagination or no interior design ideas. For my slider I put antiqued cream wide slat venetian blinds with brown fabric ribbon/tape which runs vertically. I got them at Home Depot and there is a wide selection of colors for these tapes and you can coordinate it to go with anything in that room. They look great and I am having a padded cornice made for the top in the fabric of my choice. I wanted privacy in my kitchen/dining room, but I also wanted the sun. These blinds are just the trick. The only down side is that if you use that slider door a lot you do have to raise the blinds each time or keep it raised for a period of time. It works for me and you don’t see my dog’s nose marks with the blinds in place. Vertical blinds are sort of passe now. At least that’s what I have been told. The padded cornice will match the kitchen window or be a coordinate fabric.

Q&A: Window Treatments for a sliding glass door?

Question by cmljsd27: Window Treatments for a sliding glass door?
I have a sliding glass door in my dining room that does not get used at all and I was wondering if It would be ok to take down the plain blinds that are there now and decorate it with regular panels and a valance. Or maybe put a valance up now and leave the blinds with it. I am really bad at window treatments! Any advise would be helpful. Thanks!

Answer by keezymama
Yes you can put up normal curtain on your sliding door – plan on having the curtains hang in front of the wall on either side – rather than the glass – this makes your glass look – bigger – but also makes it so if you want to open the door the curtains are not in the way. You might want to consider either a traverse rod so you can close the curtains or still having a blind mounted behind the valance so that you can close of the opening for the purposes of privacy or to darken the room.
