Q&A: Red living room furniture, what color walls and drapery?

Question by hairdoer: Red living room furniture, what color walls and drapery?
My living room furniture is red, I’m wondering what color to paint the walls, and what color window treatments I should get. My coffee table and end tables are walnut, and I have hard wood floors.

For paint, you could go with a deep brown or a slate gray. I think gold window treatments would work with a red couch and brown walls. Not a shiny gold, but more of a sheer gold. Experiment by picking up some paint samples at Lowe’s or Restoration Hardware. Have fun!

Room dividers as window treatment?

Question by : Room dividers as window treatment?
So I have an idea that I have seen used only once before, I loved it. Instead of shutters or a curtain, would it look nice to use room dividers? Do any of you have that for your living room? Send me a picture(: andyroldan94@gmail.com
Of course, nice room dividers.

I have personally never seen it but the one thing I know about room dividers is how versatile they are. So I would not be surprised at all if a room divider as a window curtain looks great and in fact becomes a popular style. I use my room divider to separate my kids bedroom into two so they can feel like they have their own space even though they have to share a bedroom. I am sure there are hundreds of other ways to use a room divider as well I say go for it.

It is “…the sort of place with covered furniture, and rooms leading to other unexpected rooms.”

But once she arrives there, Delany quickly finds that she is not alone in that strange house, and she also discovers a secret room, through a hidden passageway, a wonderful place she decides to call “the window room”. This story is about the dangerous and mysterious adventures she found there.

Treat Your Window The Right Way

As much as you don’t want to admit it, whenever you visit some else’s house you tend to become a self proclaimed architect or interior designer. From the looks of the gate and the walls, the front porch and the garden, the main door, the receiving room of the house up to the most little piece of furniture there is, you find yourself with thoughts running in your head and you keenly criticize each and every one of them. Among the things you can observe in a house, the window is a favorite. It may be of standard size or may extend up to the ceiling, it has that ability to attract the people that pay trips to your home.

Window treatments have progressed a lot from the past years. It is no longer just a mere opening on the wall for an avenue of fresh air from the outside or an option to go in and out of the house if the door is not accessible. It has evolved into becoming an icon of character and style to one’s place. Basically, it is more stylish and functional now.

Under the umbrella of the window treatments belong the blinds, curtains, shades, coverings and sheers. These things also come in different colors to suit your personal taste. Other than that, the design scheme also includes a variety of textures just like paper, plastic, glass, grass and bamboo. There is a current campaign trend in utilizing environment friendly materials that are not only helping in saving mother earth but also provides natural beauty to whatever room you are decorating.

If you are creating a window for let us say a bedroom and you wish for consistency then you can opt for a monochromatic design. You can choose pieces from your room such as the color or design and inject it to the parts of your window. This way your room will look uniform and organized.

Investing time and effort in decorating a window will give fulfillment to the home owner most especially if he or she is very particular when it comes to function and aesthetics. Take care of those windows. You will never know what might go in through that someday.

Are lace curtains to old fashioned in a room with a leather couch?

Question by Learning is fun!: Are lace curtains to old fashioned in a room with a leather couch?
If so, what window treatments would you recommend?

Answer by becky b
Hi there! In my opinion yes. But I have to admit the Victorian look is not my taste at all. I would go with a much sleeker look, something like wood or faux wood blinds would look awesome. If you want some kind of drapery (also or instead of blinds), I would go with plain panels, maybe with grommets or tab tops, with a black wrought iron curtain rod. Hope this helped! p.s. I’m jealous, I’ve been wanting a leather couch for a while now, especially a brown one!

Q&A: Can you suggest a window treatment for large windows in a formal dining room that have plantation shutters?

Question by KYKate: Can you suggest a window treatment for large windows in a formal dining room that have plantation shutters?
The shutters come out pretty far when they are open so the window treatment needs to accommodate them.

You may want to try a fabric wrapped cornice. Just make sure that when you mount it, you mount it high enough for the shutter panels to swing open under the cornice.
You can either hire someone to custom make this cornice for you, or you can make it yourself if you’re handy.
Without getting too technical, a cornice is a flat board with attached flat board sides that you staple cotton to, then staple a fabric to, and then mount it to the wall.
