My bedroom has an east-facing sliding door. How do I block out all the light?
Question by : My bedroom has an east-facing sliding door. How do I block out all the light?
There is a balcony outside and I am thinking of building a vertical sunshade of some kind to help block the sun. Would I be better off doing this or spending more on inside window treatments? The heat is absolutely astonishing. Top floor of a double A-frame.

I purchased room-darkening curtains from J.C. Penny’s and they don’t darken good at all. So I purchased another set of curtains and put another curtain rod up. Now I have two curtains in one window and it blocks out the light and all that hot sun. You could still build a sun blind of some sort if you wish, and have curtains too. You would probably only need one set of curtains if you have the sun blind tho. Good luck.

Q&A: What is the best window treatment to block most all light from coming in?
Question by User Name: What is the best window treatment to block most all light from coming in?
I’m a night shift worker. I’ve used foil before, and would prefer not to. I don’t want the neighbors wondering why we have foil on the windows. If there is an item I can buy in a store that would do the trick and look nice at the same time, I’d much prefer that. Thanks.
While I do appreciate the creative response to tint the windows :o) this home is a rental, and tint removal would take longer and be more of a hassle than it would probably be worth. thank you anyways though!

It doesn’t have to be thick or expensive, just not let the light in. Get a large piece of cardboard, recycled from a large box or poster board. Put it over the entire window opening and secure with tacks, or if you don’t mind, duct tape, and hang a scarf or wall hanging over it. If it still leaks light, a little tape should seal it up, but be careful about your walls if you rent. You can paint the poster board so it looks nicer, or hang a pretty scarf, put some window decorations or whatever in the window area so your neighbors don’t mind. It all can go up and come down in a matter of minutes, so a change in shift won’t take up alot of time. Sleep tight.

Question by che che: Looking for window treatments that block out all light.?
My daughter suffers with Migraines and needs complete darkness.
We have tried dark colored mini blind and window shades but even a crack of sunlight is pain full. Are there any ideas from other Migraine sufferers that might help? Any web sites that offer window treatment would be welcome.

You can get black out for your windows its like window tenting on a car but for your home windows it is fairly cheap and u can get it at places like home depot and lowes. I’m sure Walmart even has it and to be on the safe side you can have the blinds up and they have black out shades. And if you just want, try to put velcro on the shades and stick it together.
I hope I helped.
