The Overprotective Window Blinds

Try to look around you and see if you have window blinds hung on your windows. If you do, then you can breathe out for there is no need to worry. If you don’t, then hold on tight and listen carefully. These window blinds may come off as a simple decorative items to make the windows more stylish and attractive. But there is more to it than just that. A lot of people do not realize that these normal looking ornamental pieces provide multiple benefits not just to the other things in the house but also to the people living in it.

Because of architecture and interior design, windows can come in several different shapes and sizes. For those who have floor to ceiling windows, it is obvious that a huge amount of sunlight penetrates the home. It allows extra lighting within the home making you save up electricity during the day by not having to turn on the lights and lamps. It is also helpful during the cold season since it gives off heat and warmth. However, when you look into the other side of the coin, having these oversized windows create an avenue for extensive heat that could mean bad news for your household furniture. The sun shining directly on them can lead to staining as well as fading issues. Moreover, even the upholstery on the sofas can be destroyed once exposed to too much sunlight. But if you have existing window blinds, you can keep the sunshine out of the room. You can retain the quality of your furniture and do away with refurbishing and repainting them every now and then. This will save you money, time and effort that you can put on other important matters.

Aside from the benefits to the non living things, window blinds also do good with people. With window treatments, you can adjust the area it covers thus setting it at your desired pace. You will notice a positive change when it comes to your disturbing headache and troublesome stress. The mood of the room can be set in order to create a comfortable ambience suitable for rest and sleep.

Now that you have come to realize the good stuff about window blinds then it is never too late to get one on your own. It does not matter it they are overprotective as long as they are protecting you from all the right reasons.

Eco-friendly products are often those made from a renewable resource, such as wood, as opposed to a non-renewable resource such as plastic (which is made from petroleum – when it’s gone, it’s gone).

Any tricks for cleaning mini blinds?

Question by remember me?: Any tricks for cleaning mini blinds?
I know I should just get rid of them, they are out of style, but I have so many windows and have only been here for a year, I am taking my time with decorating and window treatments. So does anyone have any tricks for cleaning these things? They are so old they are metal mini blinds.

Answer by Josie826
I throw an old quilt down on my back deck and get out the hose and make up a bucket of warm soapy water and a soft scrub brush. I then take the blind down off the window, lay it on the old quilt, wet the blind down and then soap it up and scrub it with the brush, both sides. I then hose it off. I pick the blind up and tilt it sideways until the water drains off and then take it back to the window and hang it up. If you want, you can wipe the excess water off, but usually tipping it sideways and giving it a little shake gets most of the water off. I can clean all my mini blinds in about an hour. I have 7 in my house.

How to hang window blinds on a wall made out of brick or other type of window treatment that would work?

Question by jrunaas: How to hang window blinds on a wall made out of brick or other type of window treatment that would work?
We live in San Diego and the room in question gets a lot of morning sun. The room was a patio that someone enclosed with the far wall being all brick (fireplace). Where normally you would have drywall to screw in the brackets for blinds, you have a metal plate at the top of the window which the brick sits on. The rest of the house has wood blinds, but I’m up for anything – I just don’t know how to secure it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answer by Jason H
If allowable in your home, might try Liquid Nail. Can buy easily at Home Depot or Lowe’s, Its very strong, but you may have to hold the piece for a few minutes to let it set.

Without drilling into your brick this is the only option I can think of.

You could also try putting in a “roman shade” I believe they call it? These are available almost everywhere including Wal-Mart. It may not look like something you’d like but it would provide shade for you.

Best of luck!
