How do I decorate my home keeping the flow consistent?
Question by Shannon: How do I decorate my home keeping the flow consistent?
I don’t want each room in my home to look the same but at the same time, I’d like to avoid feeling like I live in a circus tent (ie: each room a different color/theme). Any ideas on giving each room it’s own feel while maintaining some unity? Thanks!

Choose the color you want as dominant then use lighter and darker shades of that color in different rooms. You can also use two shades in the same room if you have a chair rail or wainscoting. For a focal point wall you can paint 3 walls one shade and the 4th a lighter or darker shade of the same or constasting color. You can also use this effect with one wall papered. (I don’t think wall paper is as popular this decade as in the past, but it would be ok in small doses. Using different window treatments in different bedrooms would give rooms a little individuality. I would keep the same window treatments in the living room and dining.

Keep the furniture the same type of style. If your furniture is eclectic, make sure your furniture in each room is eclectic. Have fun with the decor. Wall colors should complement each other from room to room and same as the window treatment.
Keep the paint colour and flooring consistent throughout these rooms. There should be similarities in each room…clean lines, or squares, or soft curves..whatever your furnishings and cabinets dictate and use this throughout the rooms..this means there will be similarities and differences in colour of furniture or fabrics but something similar throughout (paint colour, flooring, design, accent colour) blending and unifying the rooms creating distinction but similarity. This will give an overall classic clean look no matter if you love the modern look or more traditional style.
