Can you put a window treatment on a metal door?
Question by Angelique: Can you put a window treatment on a metal door?
My front door is steel with an oval window in it. I want to put a roman shade on it because the late afternoon sun comes in and causes a glare on the TV. My hubby says you can’t put a curtain on a metal door. I’d like to prove him wrong.

They make curtain rods that are magnetic. If you can find one that will hold the kind of window covering you want, you will win!
You can drill and mount any kind of shade you want, but it will have to be permanent. The holes will always be there.
What do you think? Answer below!
You can get a magnatized curtain rod then you wouldn’t have to drill holes in the door to hang the rod .
Yes you can install a window treatment on a metal door by drilling small pilot holes marked from the hanging hardware and attaching the hardware;(hangers), with appropriately sized sheet metal screws available at any hardware store.
However, if you rent rather than own I wouldn´t recommend doing this as it cannot be easily repaired. A landlord would hold you responsible for door replacement.
I have seen magnetic curtain rods at k-mart and diff stores,,,plus you could use a drill to put another kind up there.
You could also try one of the translucent films they make for windows. It will block some of the light which may reduce the glare, but still let some light thru. The films are available at most home improvement centers. I put it on my front door to give privacy (have a large leaded glass panel in door). They are easy to apply and some are not permanent so if you rent, it would be removeable.
They now have magnetic curtain rods made especially for metal doors. This should solve your problem!
